Fowey's busy deep water harbour is used by countless small boats and ships of up to 17,000 tons. The hamlet of Mixtow on the east bank of the harbour is about one-and-a-half miles from the open sea. It provides an ideal base for the boating enthusiast to get afloat or relax and just watch the shipping and harbourside activities.

Mixtow, Cornwall

Visitors to Mixtow can launch at Penmarlem Quay which is owned by the Harbour Commission. Temporary moorings are available from the Harbour Commision in the creek. It is then a short boat trip by tender across the creek to the properties that we offer. Smaller boats such as those offered by Fowey River Boat Hire can be kept on the frapes at the properties. The main advantage for boating is that there is always water at Mixtow at any state of the tide because the centre part of the creek has been dredged.

Up river from Mixtow there is the sheltered estuary to explore. It is possible to travel as far as Lostwithiel or Lerryn (tides permitting). Fowey with its restaurants, shops and pubs is half a mile down river and is easily reached by boat or via the Bodinnick ferry. There are many lovely beaches accessible by road or water, extensive cliff or river walks and good local fishing and birdwatching.
