Stepaside is an open beam cottage
dating back to 1620 which was probably built for use by one of the many local
fishermen of that time. The cottage is very well equipped and being located
right beside Fowey Estuary has extensive views of the harbour and the woodlands
between Polruan and Bodinnick. The shops and quays in Fowey are only a few minutes
walk from the cottage.
The accommodation is arranged on
three floors. Entering from a small courtyard at street level there is a
spacious dining room with extensive views of the harbour and a fully equipped
kitchen with an electric cooker, fridge and microwave, a utility room with
automatic washing machine and a small freezer and cloakroom. Upstairs there are
three bedrooms (one with a double bed, one with twin beds and the other with a
single bed) and a bathroom. The bathroom has a bath with shower over, washbasin
and toilet. On the garden level there is a sitting room with
a glazed door leading to the garden. The garden is largely paved and terminates
at the water’s edge, with steps down to the foreshore.
The cottage is provided with night
storage heaters. The cost of these is included in the price from 1st October
until the end of May. The other electricity is obtained via a £1 meter. Colour
television, DVD, bed linen and a payphone for outgoing calls are provided.
There is a car and dinghy park some four hundred yards from the cottage. The
cottage is not recommended for children under eight due to the water frontage.
Disabled visitors may also find it inconvenient as it is on three levels.
No mooring is available with this cottage but a
dinghy with a mooring can normally be obtained from a local boatyard. Pets are not allowed at
Stepaside.
